Port Canaveral expands as cruise demand rises, Carnival grows fleet

April 2025 — Situated along Florida’s eastern coast, Port Canaveral is a major economic engine for the state. With the recent announcement that Carnival Cruise Line’s largest ship, Carnival Festivale, will debut at the port in Spring 2027, Port Canaveral is poised to play an even greater role in driving growth across Central Florida for years to come.
“This deployment is a reflection of our partner’s confidence in our port to consistently deliver a high-quality experience for its guests,” said Port Canaveral CEO John Murray, referring to the 35-year relationship between Carnival and the port.
Carnival Festivale will be Carnival’s fourth liquefied natural gas (LNG)-powered ship based at Port Canaveral and part of its ongoing efforts to deliver idyllic experiences for cruisegoers through a bevy of entertainment and dining outlets.
Beyond tourism, the new ship will support local suppliers, hospitality, and transportation industries.
In FY24, Port Canaveral recorded 7.6 million passenger movements, generating $156 million in revenue from cruise industry, $23 million from cargo, and $12 million from non-ship activities. Operating revenue is projected to surpass $200 million for FY25, according to the port.
Rising consumer demand for cruises has reinforced the need for expanded terminal capacity.
The port hosted 13 homeporting cruise ships in the last fiscal year; by 2029, that number is expected to grow to 16, aligning with Carnival’s strategy and reinforcing the port’s position as a hub for growth.
