Spotlight On: Dan Bonelli, Regional Senior Vice President, Comcast

August 2025 — In an interview with Invest:, Dan Bonelli, regional senior vice president of Comcast, discussed how continuous investments have supported the network’s expansion and the customer needs. “Through network innovation, we are delivering cutting-edge solutions and products powered by AI on the nation’s largest and fastest Wi-Fi network. It all starts right here in our hometown of Philadelphia,” Bonelli added.

What are some recent developments at Comcast?

Consistent investment continues to improve our network and infrastructure across the country. As a result, in Philadelphia, we recently announced that the majority of homes and businesses in the city now have access to the company’s next-generation internet speeds of up to 2 Gbps download and 300 Mbps upload. Philadelphia is ahead of the national curve, but this is technology that is rolling out across our footprint. Comcast simply has the best converged network offering both broadband and wireless, working together seamlessly.

Other changes that have enhanced our products and services include our new Xfinity Internet five-year price guarantee, as well as a free Xfinity Mobile – offering incredible savings for our customers. We are also leveraging AI for better precision in our tools and to increase reliability.

How do Comcast’s innovation priorities enhance its regional commitment?

Comcast’s local investments in Philadelphia are powering a next-generation internet experience, designed to exceed increasing demand for speed and capacity, so our customers can connect to what they need and love the most, not just today but well into the future.

Through network innovation, we are delivering cutting-edge solutions and products powered by AI on the nation’s largest and fastest Wi-Fi network. It all starts right here in our hometown of Philadelphia.

As an example of how this benefits customers, fiber optic lines were cut by a vandal just before kickoff of the Philadelphia Eagles’ performance at the 2023 Super Bowl. By leveraging AI and Comcast-driven tools, we were able to precisely pinpoint the outage location. Our technicians quickly got the infrastructure and network back up and running so nobody missed the game. Besides delivering some of the best speeds available, our customers get the best reliability with our tools, so they never skip a beat when accessing our products and services.

How do Comcast’s upgrades support the region’s economic competitiveness and digital equity goals?

Demand for connectivity and ultra-fast speeds continues to grow, and we won’t see that changing. Gaming has become a big thing, along with high-resolution video, streaming, video conferencing, and working from home — the demand for bandwidth has never been higher. I am proud to work in a company where we invest in our network and infrastructure to give our customers a network they can rely on today and in the future. At the height of COVID, there was a massive transition of people having to work and study from home. Our network was fully prepared to handle that. That is a testament to how we are always staying ahead. Whatever the evolution or demand is or will be, we are set up to ensure success for residents and businesses in Philadelphia and across the country.

How has Comcast’s offerings evolved over the years?

We have been increasing speeds at no additional cost for many years. It’s a testament to the fact that we build the network to stay ahead of demand and ensure that our customers have the speeds they need to access everything at lightning speed. Thinking back to 20 years ago, Comcast offered residential download speeds of about 3 megabits per second. All the investments and enhancements that we’ve made allow us to now offer multigigabit symmetrical speeds in some cases, providing the best speeds over our network.

How does Comcast expand access across underserved neighborhoods?

Comcast has been addressing digital opportunity for over a decade, driving accessibility for our customers through key partnerships with nonprofits and with communities throughout Philadelphia. Closing the digital divide starts with our Internet Essentials program, which provides low-cost service for low-income families. We also have Lift Zones and partnerships with Digital Navigators, trusted local non-profits, to help address digital skill-building and workforce development. Plus, we invest millions of dollars each year to support local organizations working to create greater digital opportunity.

How do you navigate potential headwinds from economic uncertainties?

We see constant evolution in the industry, and the company shifts its strategies accordingly. The investments we’ve made, not just in Philadelphia, but also across the company, enable us to offer the best network reliability, while consistently increasing and enhancing our speeds. A big piece of our product offering comes from listening to what our customers are asking for. The five-year price guarantee, for example, comes from customers looking for connectivity and cost certainty. Another example would be the Xfinity Mobile offering of a free line. With 90% of mobile consumption happening over Wi-Fi, our converged network enables features like PowerBoost so that mobile customers get gig speeds on their devices over Xfinity WiFi. This convergence is what positions us to provide the best experiences throughout our footprint.

What are Comcast’s key priorities in the Freedom Region?

Our best-in-class next-generation broadband network will continue expanding to underserved communities, meeting the needs of customers looking for superior connectivity across the region. We are also seeing a construction boom in Philadelphia, and we are working closely with developers to provide services like our Wi-Fi-ready products in new buildings including commercial office space and off-campus apartments.

Xfinity Mobile is the best kept secret in the wireless market. Our customers bundle the service with our Xfinity Internet to save a ton of money every month, and get the benefit of PowerBoost. Switching to Xfinity Mobile gives customers great savings, reliability, and a seamless transition between cellular and WiFi, so we’re on a mission to make sure everyone knows about it. In Philadelphia, we’ll have the new Xfinity Mobile Arena, another exciting component of our support in the region.

It all comes down to providing the best customer experience, expanding our network, as well as delivering products and services over the best and most reliable network.
