June 2025 — In an increasingly uncertain and fragile geopolitical environment, it’s clear that steady voices are needed at the table to help shape a collaborative path forward. Abby Lindenberg, CEO and founder of media publishing platform caa, was among the voices in Washington, D.C., recently, participating in a conference aimed at bridging the Trans-Atlantic divide.

Hosted by the Centenary Policy Institute, a think tank, the conference brought together diplomats and business leaders to discuss the widening gap between the United States and the European Union, which is “facing increasing strain” according to a news release from the Institute.

“Tough conversations like those we had at the conference are an important vehicle to restore trust and certainty to American and European businesses alike. The tariff debacle this year has made it incredibly difficult for domestic businesses to plan and grow. Knowing we have European allies who have mutual interests in seeing a successful conclusion is essential to a strong 2025 and beyond,” Lindenberg said.

The key issue, the institute says, is a growing misalignment in speed, priorities, and strategic execution.

“Washington’s fast-paced, results-driven policy style contrasts sharply with Brussels’ consensus-based, procedural approach. This mismatch creates friction, especially in areas like tech regulation, sanctions, and security. For the United States, Europe can seem overly bureaucratic; for Europe, the United States appears impatient and dismissive of process,” the Institute said in its release.

The business leaders and policymakers from both the American and European sides were incredibly keen to continue to work together. There is an eagerness to ensure a prosperous future, and that sentiment, as a business owner and one who speaks with American businesses day in and day out, was incredibly encouraging,” Lindenberg added.

Trust between the the United States and Europe is “quietly eroding” and while the transatlantic bond endures, it must evolve, according to the Institute. “Realism, not nostalgia, must guide the next phase of cooperation. Without that, the alliance risks becoming a comfortable illusion rather than a dynamic force in a changing world.”
