Can you provide an overview of Fitness Compulsion and what sets it apart from other health and wellness companies in the region?
Fitness Compulsion started when I weighed myself at 215 pounds. I was in a lot of pain after a car accident. I developed arthritis in my knees due to the accident. At that weight, I needed to walk with a cane and needed help getting in and out of bed. I decided to take my health and wellness into my own hands. I started studying anatomy, diet, and herbal supplementation to create a healing environment for my body.
Fitness Compulsion is a health and wellness company that helps individuals and corporations get clients to obtain optimal health. Optimal health is the absence of disease, injury, or the need for medication. We do an assessment and pinpoint each client’s exact needs. We start with cleansing the gut and work our way outward.
We have clients and doctors who have lost over 30 pounds in a matter of weeks. We teach clients the discipline to follow the program. Most of my clients are like-minded, so discipline isn’t the issue; it’s getting the knowledge. We focus on the executives and founders of a company because our goal is to create a culture of health and wellness, and that starts from the top.
By working with the head of an organization, we can create a generational culture of health and wellness. Children can see the culture in their parents. One particular client is the head of a university, and she wants to implement programs for the university. What sets us apart is that we create a culture and we generate results.
Reflecting on the past year, what have been the main highlights and key milestones for Fitness Compulsion in the last 12 months?
A huge part of well-being is self-care in mental health and avoiding burnout. That’s how our luxury wellness retreats were created. We don’t do a lot of intense workouts in our luxury retreats. We go to another country and explore the country as a time to reset, relax, rejuvenate, and gain knowledge about an individual’s particular health and wellness in a serene environment. The retreats use meditation, targeted spa treatments, and resetting with like-minded individuals. We choose places outside of the United States for targeted wellness.
Two of our most popular destinations are Ghana and Morocco. The soil in Ghana is rich in minerals, and Morocco is known for its argan oils and olive oils. We are launching our first summit in St. Thomas this year. The summit is a place where leaders can come and get a roadmap of the skills they need to start leading a healthy life and create a culture of wellness in their companies. One of the biggest milestones is that we are building our own luxury resort. We’re starting in Ghana and branching out to other areas.
How does Fitness Compulsion partner with other organizations and healthcare institutions to deliver well-founded fitness and nutrition services?
Fitness Compulsion offers a tiered corporate wellness program designed to meet the diverse needs of organizations. Our approach includes access to a range of specialists, such as mental health experts, including trauma specialists, to provide holistic support. Additionally, we create workshops that educate employees on existing company-provided services, ensuring they are aware of available mental health resources, especially in times of crisis.
I am certified through Stanford University and have extensively studied nutrition and the gut microbiome and its impact on overall well-being. To further support our clients, Fitness Compulsion has launched a comprehensive Food Sensitivity & Wellness Test. This test analyzes over 1,200 items, equipping individuals with valuable insights into potential food and environmental triggers affecting their health.
As a Black woman with her own business, what are the main challenges that Fitness Compulsion faces, and how do you navigate through them?
As a Black woman entrepreneur, I’ve had to break through glass ceilings, but today, I no longer see those barriers the way I once did. Fitness Compulsion is a results-driven company, and people prioritize the transformations we deliver over anything else.
In the early days, I encountered bias—one potential investor, due to my race and dark skin, suggested branding the company around my logo instead of me. That was a challenge I had to push past, but now, the results speak louder than any stereotype. We’re expanding globally, gaining referrals purely from our impact, without relying on heavy marketing. While I’m open to investors, Fitness Compulsion has already shattered expectations by proving that real results are what matter most.
What will be the main priorities and business goals for Fitness Compulsion in the near term?
We want to create a greater global impact. The fitness industry, and specifically wellness tourism, is growing, and Fitness Compulsion will be at the forefront. We want to form partnerships to develop technologies to track peoples’ results and increase the holistic wellness space and knowledge to give people what they need to maintain longevity. We host board retreats, which automatically incorporate the wellness elements into the retreat. Allowing Fitness Compulsion to host your board retreat will help create a culture for your company and help reduce burnout.
