July 2026 — As communities across the country commemorate America’s 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, organizations are recognizing a once-in-a-generation opportunity to celebrate American history while supporting tourism, community engagement, and local economies.

The national commemoration is being coordinated through the official America250 initiative, alongside numerous state and local programs.

Within caa, the celebration spans two market groupings — the Northern region and the Southern region — highlighting the unique historical, cultural, and economic contributions of each market while showcasing destinations that will welcome visitors throughout the anniversary year.

“The 250th anniversary is a once-in-a-generation opportunity,” Susan Phillips, president and CEO of the St. Augustine, Ponte Vedra & The Beaches Visitors & Convention Bureau, told Invest: Jacksonville.

Northern region: Founding story meets modern commerce

The Northern region includes several of the nation’s most historically significant destinations, many of which are central to the story of America’s founding: Boston, Minneapolis–St. Paul, New Jersey, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh. Historic sites, museums, cultural institutions, and destination organizations throughout the region are offering programming that connects visitors with the nation’s past while supporting local businesses and hospitality.

Philadelphia serves as one of the principal destinations for the national commemoration. The city has launched an official national tourism campaign to attract visitors throughout 2026, supported by investments from the city of Philadelphia and more than 250 participating organizations. 

Visit Philadelphia’s campaign encourages travelers to experience the city’s historic landmarks alongside its restaurants, arts, neighborhoods, and cultural attractions. The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is also positioning 2026 as a landmark year for statewide tourism. Through the Visit PA Playmakers initiative, Pennsylvania is preparing to welcome visitors attending America250PA celebrations, the NFL Draft, the FIFA World Cup, the PGA Championship, the MLB All-Star Game, and other major events expected to draw millions of visitors across the Commonwealth.

“There’s a lot of excitement building, and it’s a big opportunity not just for hotels, but for the entire region. Everyone’s gearing up to be part of it,” John St. Omer, general manager of the Philadelphia Marriott Old City Hotel, told Invest: Philadelphia. 

Pittsburgh contributes another chapter to America’s story through its legacy of manufacturing, engineering, innovation, and industry. The city will host one stop of the official America250PA Commonwealth Concert Series, reflecting Western Pennsylvania’s role in the statewide celebration.

While Minneapolis–St. Paul is geographically removed from the nation’s Revolutionary history, it represents another important dimension of the American story. The Twin Cities are home to numerous Fortune 500 companies, such as Target, Best Buy, 3M, General Mills, C.H. Robinson, and Ecolab, and continue to demonstrate the importance of innovation, entrepreneurship, and corporate leadership within the modern U.S. economy.

Southern region: Innovation, hospitality, and community

Across the Southern region, communities are recognizing America’s 250th anniversary through local events, educational programming, cultural activities, and visitor experiences that reflect the region’s continued growth and diversity.

Texas has established the official Texas America250 Commission to coordinate commemorative activities across the state. Dallas–Fort Worth, Houston, and San Antonio are among the metropolitan areas participating in statewide efforts that celebrate Texas’ role in the nation’s history while highlighting its continued leadership in aerospace, energy, technology, healthcare, and advanced manufacturing.

Florida’s markets, including Miami, Greater Fort Lauderdale, Palm Beach, Greater Orlando, Tampa Bay, and Jacksonville, remain among the country’s leading leisure and hospitality destinations. Their established tourism infrastructure, international airports, cruise ports, beaches, attractions, and cultural institutions position these communities to welcome domestic and international travelers throughout the anniversary year.

Elsewhere in the Southern region, Atlanta, Charlotte, Raleigh–Durham, Nashville, and South Carolina each offer distinctive experiences that contribute to the broader national celebration. These markets showcase a blend of business leadership, higher education, music, arts, innovation, historic sites, and cultural attractions that reflect the diversity of the American experience. 

While the Semiquincentennial is focused on the past, it is also necessary to look forward, Joseph Marinelli, CEO of Visit Savannah, told Focus: Atlanta. 

“At Visit Savannah, our annual business plan is always designed to lay the groundwork this year, while setting the table for the next two years. And in today’s ever-changing climate, that strategy has never been more important,” Marinelli said.

Together, caa’s Southern region demonstrates that America’s 250th anniversary is not only an opportunity to reflect on the nation’s founding, but also to celebrate the communities, industries, and institutions that continue to shape its future.

As America marks this historic milestone, both the Northern and Southern regions illustrate how local communities can honor the nation’s past while welcoming visitors, strengthening civic engagement, and supporting regional economies through thoughtful programming and collaboration.
