2 min read August 2022Joey, regional editor at Capital Analytics, discussed his hometown, published and unpublished books he’s written and his thoughts on aliens. “I think it is possible but I’m tired of all these stories with no evidence. ‘Wow, we saw these flying saucers 10 feet from us!’ Where is the footage?”

Where did you grow up?

I grew up in upstate New York in a small town called Ellenburg Center. There were a lot of farms and amish communities. It was pretty quiet. There wasn’t much to do except to look at the mountains and the farms. It had a lot of natural beauty, which is something I appreciate a lot more now that I’m older. Other than family and beauty, everything else is much more enjoyable and accessible here in Miami. I don’t mind being away from home.

Where did you go to college and what was your experience like?

I attended Florida State University. I enjoyed my time, but I’m not the typical party animal that goes to FSU. I maybe went out a handful of times. It was pretty much just four years of really intense studying. I was so grateful for the opportunity to go there that I simply decided to make the best use of my time. Although I wasn’t a party animal, they did have a really nice gym so I used that a lot.

How did you end up in journalism with a finance degree?

When I started the degree my goal was to head into private equity or start a search fund. The place I interned at was actually a private equity firm that would support individuals to go out acquire businesses, increase their profit and efficiencies and then either sell them at a higher price or keep them as an asset. I interned there for a year, but eventually It came to a point where I just had a gut feeling that the finance industry wasn’t what I wanted to devote myself to. I didn’t want my purpose to be chasing money for a living, so I quit my internship and started writing books. I decided I’d rather be happy doing something I enjoy and find purpose in.

You have published books, what are they about?

I have two published books. They are both on fiscal policy at the federal level. I also have various unpublished books, some also on fiscal policy and the economy and others on how to approach life. The life-focused books are unpublished for a reason. I’m only 24, so I still have a lot of life to live before I give people advice on how to live on their own. In the books I focus on having strong relationships, staying healthy and choosing a career that makes you happy.

Do you believe in Aliens?

I think it is possible but I’m tired of all these stories with no evidence. “Wow, we saw these flying saucers 10 feet from us!” Where is the footage? I know the government released footage of UFOs, but who knows if it is our technology or aliens. I’m too small to understand what is going on. I’m just a man working as a regional editor at Capital Analytics.

If you were an animal, what animal would it be and why?

I’d be a kangaroo. My name is Joey, and Joeys are baby kangaroos. Now that I’m a grown-up Joey, I’m a kangaroo. Also, I can jump kind of high, I’m kind of athletic and I can run pretty fast. If I’m being honest though, I have just always associated myself with a kangaroo.
