Spotlight On: Eric McBride, CEO, Palm Beach Health Network Physician Group

February 2024 — Palm Beach Health Network Physician Group is one of the fastest-growing companies in the region’s healthcare sector. “We’re continuing to invest in the medical group and support the expansion of services, technology and staff.  We are excited about our recruitment plans over the next three to five years,” says CEO Eric McBride.

What are the major highlights and milestones for your organization over the last year?

One of the great things we’ve accomplished over the last year is the addition of new providers and services to the Palm Beach and Treasure Coast markets. Over the past year we’ve recruited 52 new providers to our network, and we’ve added specialists in many physician subspecialties that previously were underrepresented.

What would you say are your top priorities for the upcoming year as well?

We’re working on additional physician recruitment efforts.  Adding more specialties and covering more geography are top priorities. We’re expanding our services within Palm Beach and the Treasure Coast. It’s pretty exciting for us as we remain intently focused on quality patient care while offering great customer service. Our initiatives remain focused around improving operational performance and access for our patients.

Where do you see the greatest opportunities?

Our sector is very lively, and we are excited about upcoming new investments in our network of existing healthcare providers. Competition and investment are necessary due to increased population demand and the presence of disease in our population.  Our objective is to focus on improving access to specialty medicine while enhancing our primary care network.

As the population continues to age, we have to ensure there’s enough specialty access available to take care of the needs of the population to build healthy communities. These investments are critical because of the population immigration into Palm Beach County and the Treasure Coast. We must rise to the occasion to take care of the health of the communities we serve.

Is there any particular service that has seen an uptick in growth?

We’ve seen a lot of growth in two key areas: orthopedic services and cardiovascular services. Specifically, we’ve added new specialists within general orthopedics and cardiology throughout our market and those providers have been wildly successful in meeting patient demand.

We’ve been fortunate enough to add subspecialists including orthopedic hand, joint, shoulder and spine. For cardiac services, we’ve added similar subspecialty physicians including cardiac electrophysiology, interventional, structural and surgery.

What have been some of those key obstacles that you have faced as a company and also as an industry?

Finding adequate and talented support staff is the key challenge facing us today. The market is hyper-competitive for qualified frontline personnel. We’ve had to become more creative to attract and retain talent to support our physician workforce. We believe this challenge will continue through 2024.

What kind of recruiting strategies are in place at Palm Beach Health Network Physician Group?

We’re exploring alternative ways to recruit through new mediums including both online and in person. Our team is working extra hard to attract talent and be competitive in the workforce. Currently, we are putting programs and procedures in place to make sure we’re the employer of choice in the area.

Our employee turnover rate is amongst the lowest in the industry and within Tenet Healthcare. We’ve spent a lot of time building the culture and the brand, motivating people to be high contributors to success.

How quickly has technology evolved and impacted the industry in the past year?

We are seeing a massive investment in technology targeted at helping us with patient throughput, safety, engagement and access. We have technology that helps with remote monitoring and communication with the care team to improve the health and wellness of our patients. We’re pioneering AI solutions and technology that promote ease of practice and patient safety.

What is your outlook for the organization over the next two to three years?

I’m most excited about our recent investments in Palm Beach County and the Treasure Coast to expand and enhance patient access and care. We’re continuing to invest in the medical group and support the expansion of services, technology and people in these communities.

Tenet Healthcare is currently the largest healthcare provider in Palm Beach County. We’re passionate about improving the health and wellness of the patients in these communities.
