Invest: San Antonio 2022 Launch Conference put a spotlight on collaboration in education and innovation

Invest: San Antonio 20222 min read  February 2022 — Business and community leaders reaffirmed their belief that San Antonio is, and will remain, one of the most resilient and innovative markets for the long term future at the official launch conference for the inaugural edition of Invest: San Antonio.

“When tens of thousands of workers were displaced by the pandemic, we knew it was time for a bold move to ensure that our community was less vulnerable to pandemics and other calamities,” said Mayor Ron Nirenberg in his opening keynote address. He also discussed Delorean moving its headquarters to the region, the SA Ready To Work program and affordable housing. 

The near-term horizon and the region’s long-term strategies to ensure success were the focal points of the official Invest: San Antonio 2022 Launch Conference held Wednesday, March 2, hosted by media platform Capital Analytics.The event, via Zoom webinar also featured prominent business leaders that drove two robust panel discussions.

Invest: San Antonio is the latest annual business intelligence report compiled by media platform Capital Analytics as part of its suite of yearly reports focusing on local and regional economies. In her opening speech, Capital Analytics CEO Abby Melone said, “Throughout our conversations with the leading voices from both the public and private sectors, many of whom are joining us now, we learned the essence of what makes the San Antonio region a desirable place to work, live and play. And why San Antonio is among the fastest-growing cities in the country.”

The first panel of the conference, “The Partnership Principle: Why collaboration will be key for the future of higher education,” explored the relationship between San Antonio’s higher educational institutions and the local business community. Texas A&M University President Dr. Cynthia Teniente-Matson was the moderator of the panel discussion, which featured panelists Veronica Salazar, the senior vice president for business affairs at the University of Texas at San Antonio, Dr. Thomas Evans, the president of the University of the Incarnate Word, Dr. Adena Williams Loston, the president of St. Philip’s College, and Dr. Danny Anderson, the president of Trinity University. 

The second panel, “Creativity vs. Innovation: The difference is taking action,” examined the process of bringing creativity to life. Moderated by Elizabeth Crawford, the CEO of Sendero Wealth Management and Sendero Family Enterprise, panelists included Vantage Bank Texas CEO Jeff Sinnott, alongside Bill Phillips, executive vice president and chief information office of University Health, and Rick Archer, founding principal of Overland Partners.
