How do the port’s cruise, cargo, and petroleum operations complement Dania Beach’s marine, aviation, and logistics strengths?
Much of the city of Dania Beach’s smart development is closely aligned to Port Everglades operations. There is a positive synergy that drives the partnership. The recent addition of several hotels along U.S. 1 brings direct benefit to cruise passengers and crew, as well as visiting executives from port operating companies.
Likewise for the airport. New and expanded warehousing also is in high demand, and the proximity is enormously beneficial. The city of Dania Beach has done a terrific job of building a marine industry. One recent addition, South Florida Boat Works on Old Griffin Road, offers full service boat building, repair, and waterside testing. Many of the area’s yachts arrive from all over the world through Port Everglades, and many are destined for operations such as these.
How does PEA partner with the City of Dania Beach to align port growth with community priorities?
The city of Dania Beach is a leader in beautiful new and much-needed residential units. This makes the city attractive for the thousands of employees who work at seaport and airport companies. Port Everglades and city planners work closely with FDOT District Four and with Broward County to expedite road projects to swiftly and safely move trucks and other vehicles, minimizing traffic congestion. Our Association is proud to have active participation from city officials at our informative monthly luncheon programs. There is a true spirit of support and information-sharing.
What should business owners, investors, and residents understand about the port’s role in Dania Beach’s future?
Without question, Dania Beach is an ideal location for port and marine industry headquarters, a regional or local base of operations. Part of the Port is located in the city, and the close location and ease of access are unparalleled. Likewise, residential housing developers and investors can capitalize on this for the same reasons.
Many people who work at the Port are residents of Dania Beach, so the Port’s operations and expansion needs are conveyed to Dania Beach on a regular basis. The Port recently rolled out a new Master/Vision Plan Update, and there were 20 general public presentations to share information. Likewise, many PEA member companies have their operations in Dania Beach, such as Derecktor Shipyards, South Florida Boat Works, and offices for some of the cruise lines as well.
