2 min read December 2023 — The Miami Dolphins are continuing to make history this season, and Sunday’s faceoff with the Washington Commanders proved to be no different. Not only did the team secure a win, but they finished the game with a final score that has never been seen in NFL history.

It’s called a scorigami, a term for when the total points scored has never been previously recorded in league history. This is also not the first scorigami for the Miami Dolphins this season. Earlier this year, Miami’s offense crushed the Denver Broncos 70-20, which was not only a scorigami but also set new Dolphins’ franchise records for the most points in a game and most yards in a game at 726. Also, the team ended up just shy of the all-time NFL scoring record, which is 72 for the regular season.

The franchise, sitting at 9-3 and with the playoffs in reach, also participated in the league’s first-ever Black Friday game. Held Friday, Nov. 24, they took home another victory against the New York Jets. Amazon Prime reportedly paid $100 million to broadcast the first-ever NFL Black Friday match. The Dolphins are also featured in this season of HBO’s Hard Knocks, which will give a behind-the-scenes look at this historic season for the franchise. The series is scheduled for eight episodes but has the potential to run up to 12 should the Dolphins make the Super Bowl.

At the end of the day, the prize is the championship, and the Dolphins are well-positioned to go all the way. The only other team in the AFC with a 9-3 record is the Baltimore Ravens, and the Dolphins currently sit with a 99% chance of making the playoffs, according to the New York Times interactive simulator. The franchise can secure their playoff spot as early as Week 16 with wins over the Tennessee Titans, New York Jets, and the Dallas Cowboys.

South Florida’s football frenzy is certainly not limited to the pros. While not having the best season, sitting ninth in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC), the University of Miami Hurricanes are hometown favorites by default. But fans everywhere are gearing up for this year’s Orange Bowl, where the fifth-ranked Florida State Seminoles will face the sixth-ranked University of Georgia Bulldogs on Dec. 30.

“On behalf of our team and especially our seniors we are looking forward to the opportunity to play in the Capital One Orange Bowl,” said UGA head coach Kirby Smart in a statement. “It also presents a great opportunity for our fans who have been so supportive of our team throughout the season at home and on the road. We had the opportunity to play in the Orange Bowl a couple of years ago and know firsthand how welcoming the people of South Florida can be.”
