Pittsburgh’s spooky Halloween events

2 min read October 2023 — As soon as the season of fall begins in Pittsburgh, the surrounding feeling of the area begins to shift with Halloween around the corner. Retail businesses in the area can expect to do well this month, as Halloween spending is expected to reach a record $12.2 billion this year. 

You don’t have to try too hard to find the Halloween spirit in Pittsburgh. From haunted houses to corn mazes, these are some of the upcoming Halloween events to fill up the month of October. 

 

Phantom Fall Fest

Fridays through Sundays until October 29, there will be the Phantom Fall Fest hosted at Kennywood Park for people of all ages. During the daytime, there will be family-friendly activities and kids rides being available. From 6:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., the ghouls come out. There will be seven haunted houses and four scare zones as well as roller coasters and food.

ScareHouse

At the Galleria at Pittsburgh Mills, ScareHouse is back. This is ranked as “America’s Scariest Halloween Attraction” by the Travel Channel. The attraction “Scream Team” is made up of professional specific effect artists and costume designers. This event is available on selected dates throughout Nov. 4.

Evil Dead the Musical 

A comedic take on the cult classic film will be running until October 22 at the West End Canopy, combining the “Evil Dead” films into a theatrical experience. This musical is not appropriate for younger audiences.

Zombies of the Corn

Fridays through Sundays until October 28, people have the chance to stop the zombie apocalypse. In the “Zombie Fighting Vehicle,” riders will be able to eliminate zombies in a thrilling time.

Haunted Pittsburgh Ghost Tours

In Downtown Pittsburgh, you can take a walk around some of the city’s haunted areas. This tour is available from May to October and features ghost stories from some of Pittsburgh’s most famous landmarks. The tour guides know how to guide audiences and get them spooked during the tours. The tour guide gives an account of the hauntings for each location.

Halloween Cruises

Gateway Clipper cruises offer various Halloween-themed cruises to have fun with during the season. Returning in 2023 is the Haunted Pittsburgh Cruise starting at $32 dollars for adults and $20 for kids. This cruise goes along the three rivers and has ghost stories and tarot readings. There’s also the adult-only Moonlight Dance happening on October 13. For kids, there’s the Halloween Fun Cruise on Oct. 28 with fun prizes and costume parties.
