2 min read August 2022Jimena, regional director at Capital Analytics, spoke on how she’s using her previous experience as the company’s Human Resources Manager to take on her new role as Regional Director. Additionally, she discussed how she likes to spend her free time as well as the role models in her life.

You were promoted to the position of Regional Director in June. What have you enjoyed the most about your new position, so far?

Most of my previous work in the publishing world has been in the sales front, and it’s been exciting to get back into sales. I’ve also enjoyed working with my direct reports because I have a fantastic team that is doing a tremendous job.

Previously you were the Human Resources Manager for Capital Analytics. How can you use the experiences from this role in your new position?

I believe that the Human Resources Manager position will apply to any job that I do from now into the long term future. As a Human Resources Manager, you learn the priorities of the people you work with, and I think this is important when you’re working with any kind of direct reports, interviewees or clients. It reminds you that you’re working with people. I think that’s one of the things that I’m bringing into this position.

What’s your favorite thing about working at Capital Analytics?

One of my favorite things about working at Capital Analytics is that it’s a fast paced environment.  The momentum that the company has right now is one of growth, opportunity and achievement. I love being a part of it.

During your free time, what do you like to do for fun?

I have a lot of hobbies. I love all kinds of sports and exercises. I’m a very active person, and I try to workout as much as possible. Right now, my preferred type of exercise is horseback riding. I do this on Saturdays and Sundays. I enjoy it because I get to spend time with nature, however, it’s also a challenging sport both physically and psychologically. I always try to excel in everything that I do. I never imagined myself riding a horse. I’m 31 years old right now, and I started learning when I was 30 years old. People usually learn these things when they’re young.

Other things I like to do are running, yoga and dancing. I am currently taking dance classes. I also like to do anything that involves creativity, such as painting and cooking.

I love the dining scene in Mexico City. There are so many options, so you can always find new restaurants to explore. However, my favorite place in the city is the woods where I do my horseback riding. It’s my preferred place to go.

Who has been a role model for you throughout your career and why?

I have looked up to my grandmother all my life. She was born and raised in a tiny town in Mexico. However, she has managed to travel the world and send her three kids to private universities. She has worked throughout her life, so she has always been an example for me. Although she was born in a wealthy family, she married someone that was poor. They made their professional careers from scratch. When I see the pictures of them in Hong Kong or Hawaii, I become inspired. It makes me feel like we have a lot of things in common.

What are some countries that you have never been to that you would like to visit?

I would like to go to Australia or New Zealand. I have also never been to Asia, so I have a lot of curiosity to visit those areas, especially Tokyo. Tokyo is a city that intrigues me due to its culture, food and aesthetics.

Where do you see yourself in the next five years, and are there any specific goals that you want to achieve during that time?

I always set myself goals. However, one thing I’ve learned over the past 10 years is that I prefer to keep an open mind because sometimes we limit ourselves when setting goals. Life keeps surprising us when we have an open approach. I’d rather write my story on the go. For me, it matters what I do today because that will shape the achievements coming to me in the future.
